Tough Times

Image
I never would've thought that I would be 1 month into the field and not have taught a single lesson, nevertheless here we are. I've taught lots of lessons to members, especially this week we had a lot, and I've actually learned to be pretty decent at conducting those. Still it's just a quick thought to a family inviting them to strive to be more like Jesus Christ. It'll typically take 20ish minutes and then we probably won't talk to them again.        I had an interview with the mission president and at one point he asked, "Do you feel like you've made an impact on anyone's life this transfer?" (That's a 6 week increment and I'm still in my first transfer so it's been a month)        I looked him in the eyes and said, "no I don't think I have."        He said, "Really? Nobody?"       "Yup," I confirmed, "I don't think there's anyone's life that I've touched."        Y...

Short And Sweet

Another week gone by with not a ton to do. It was Easter this week and so Sunday was awesome. We attended 3 different services and each one you could feel the spirit was present. The highlight of the services had to be 2 little girls who sang the song, Gethsemane, it was so beautiful and sweet.       Other than that, we got some snow this week. We even got a little bit of hail, not very big hail, but it wasn't fun to bike through it. It even cut my companions ear a little bit, so that was fun. I've learned it's actually not fun to bike through the snow. I can never look up to see where I'm going because it doesn't seem to matter which direction I'm going - the snow is always blowing into my face, which I'm moving on a bike so that makes sense, but it's still annoying. Turns out snow isn't all sunshine and rainbows.         P days are still fun, last week we got permission to watch Encanto (we've been singing the songs all w...

Lots Of Service

Dekan's email:                  dekan.blacker@missionary.org Dekan's mission home address:         Utah Layton Mission         190 N Country Lane         Fruit Heights, UT 84037   This week was actually kinda boring, not going to lie. Something funny though is this trend of us getting the most random stuff from people. First we got the toy gun, then we got the air horn, this week we got the coolest item by far. We got these epic Samurai swords that are actually kinda sharp. I also got a T-shirt, but the swords make the T-shirt an afterthought (actually the shirt is pretty cool). I don't know why we keep getting these random toys from people, but hey I'm all for it.        Unfortunately, we had almost 0 lessons this week. Not because we didn't have any planned, but because about 90% of them got canceled. Actually, I'm pretty sure we didn't have more than ...

Great Insights

This week has been fantastic! There were so many wonderful activities that I got to participate in, all jam packed into 1 week.        First, on Wednesday I got to attend the temple with my district. The Bountiful temple is so beautiful. With all due respect it's much nicer than the Dallas Temple, sorry. Also, I can see the Layton Temple from where I live and it also looks gorgeous.        After the temple, we then stopped at In-N-Out, which was awesome. I walked in and instantly just felt very nostalgic, and it just felt like I was at home, it was a great feeling. I got my usual and even though it was up to In-N-Out's standards, it was not up to store 277's standards. (That's actually not a joke, it wasn't nearly as good. #277ForLife)          Thursday we had zone conference. This was the highlight of the week for me because there's this really cool tour of a full-scale replica of the Tabernacle...
