Ugh, Winter
Oh, the weather got so cold here. It's freezing. We had single digit highs and it felt like below 0 for a couple of days. Then one day the temperature got all the way up to 27 degrees and it legitimately felt so warm. I've adjusted way more than I ever thought I would. I've been walking around while it's snowing with only a light jacket and I'm actually comfortable, it's weird. That being said I'm still sick of the cold and I'm ready for some warmth.
Training is still going really really well. Elder Whetten is still such a great missionary for it being his first transfer and I'm seeing the improvement in him. He surprises me in a good way just about everyday and it's so fun to see somebody putting it all together on how to be a missionary. He's also pushing me to be a better missionary. Sadly though he got his Visa and could be leaving as early as a week from today. I'm glad he'll get to go to Tahiti, but still he's a friend I won't see for over 20 months.
I had an interesting experience this week as one of my roommates got an email at about 10:20pm one night from his friend. His friend basically said that he was about to commit suicide and asked that my roommate would talk him out of it. My roommate was very overwhelmed and so basically he handed the phone over to me and I messaged this guy as if I was his friend. I think it went well, they said they would head into the ER. So that created enough excitement to last a night, first to deal with the friend reaching out for help and then my roommate who was just rather distressed.
Last thing I'd like to share a miracle that we saw. Someone was pulling up into their garage and so we go over there and start talking to them and they told us that they were active members, so we did what we always do and shared a scripture and left them with a spiritual thought. By the end she started tearing up, thanked us, told us it was exactly what she needed, then bolted inside because I guess she was embarrassed. I wanted to share this because it's actually not that spectacular, as missionaries we see miracles like that all the time and I don't know why, but that one made me stop and consider how cool it is that I get to go out and make that impact on people every single day.
