Why Thank You Mr. Airbag

Well, I was in a car crash this week so it was an exciting week, just not in a good way.

So the way the accident happened, me and Elder Raine were getting a ride from a member, Elder Raine was in the passenger seat and I was behind my companion, waiting to turn left. We were at a stop sign,  there was a car across from us looking to go straight and the road between us did not have a stop sign. The car across from us made a bad call and went for it, getting hit by a truck that led the car to crash into us. It was really weird because I saw the car go instantly thinking, uh oh that was a mistake, so I was completely expecting a crash, but I was still blindsided by the fact that we got hit. So you see the car go, you here a crash and then you feel our car get hit, the car jerks, you're rocked and you look up to a completely different scene. All of the airbags are out, the air is super musty, and you're thinking woah, that just happened. So I got out of the car, I was perfectly fine I was behind the passenger seat and it hit the front left of the car I would've hit my head on the window but thankfully an airbag was there instead. So I got out checked on my companion, he said he was fine, then I checked our driver who was holding his chest, but he said he was fine. So I went back to my companion, who was still good and then I went over to the lady who was driving the truck because she was shaking really hard, she was breathing really heavily and I was pretty sure she was about to pass out. So I went over to her and the next 10ish minutes I was just trying to calm her down because she was very shaken up. The driver of the car, so the one who caused the accident, and his sister were still in the car because they were sandwiched between our cars and didn't have a way to get out. The police arrived before long, they were able to move the cars, all 3 cars involved ended up getting totaled, and the driver got out, but his sister did not. She said it was too painful for her to get out. At that point I realized how serious this actually might be. They got her into an ambulance and before long her mom showed up. After consoling her son she came to us to make sure we were alright and before she left I asked if her kids would like a priesthood blessing, which she accepted. So I got to give a blessing in the ambulance and it was really cool. Words just started coming to my mouth including things I wouldn't have expected to have said including, "Kylee your Heavenly Father needs you to become closer to your family." I have no idea how her relationship with her family is, but I said what her Heavenly Father needed her to know and I know that to be true. We also gave the driver a blessing of comfort before we left because he was understandably feeling pretty awful causing a crash that sent his sister into an ambulance. Luckily, everybody is alright in the end. Kylee broke her collarbone, but everybody lived.

Here are the miracles that I recognized with this event. 1. Both me and Elder Raine were perfectly fine, not even a scratch, and even more interesting, neither of us were in shock or anything of the sort. Everyone else in the wreck was panicked, shaken, injured, or all the above, but me and Elder Raine were protected both physically and mentally/emotionally. 2. The fact that we were in the car accident at all. The reason I say this is because based on the cars trajectory if we weren't there to stop the cars, they likely would've gone up onto the sidewalk where there were a bunch of kids walking because the elementary school had just gotten out. 3. Some other missionaries randomly prayed for our safety before we got hit, which was interesting.

One other cool thing, we met a kid named William a couple of weeks ago and he is such an awesome kid. He is the most considerate kid I've ever met and that includes myself, and I consider myself to be a rather considerate person. This kid is so awesome and so ready to be baptized, except they dropped us on Wednesday, so they asked us not to come back. Right after they did this though I had a really cool prompting, the spirit told me that I had done my job, that I did what was needed for William to further progress down the line. Even though I've only met him twice, he's already really good friends with us and according to his mom, he took it pretty hard when she told him that we weren't going to be coming back and I believe that the relationship we built with him will one day lead to him opening the door and his heart to missionaries because he's so prepared and the spirit can work wonders with an open heart and living the gospel brings what nothing else can, true joy and true peace.

I know this is the truth and I'm doing what God needs me to, I love you guys,

Elder Blacker
